Re: console error at startup says upgrade to java 9
All versions of java below java 9 will give this warning. The warning exists because Yawcam can't handle when the computer goes into sleep mode or hibernation with these java versions in a correct way. Best is to upgrade to a later version of java. I would recommend to use java 17 from: https://adop...

Re: max resolution in Yawcam
I just got my hands on a 4K camera and can confirm that Yawcam doesn't handle that resolution (3840x2160) correct.
In my tests 2560x1440 is the highest resolution that works right now.

Re: BUG: Exposure goes to max
The exposure is controlled by the drivers for the webcam.
What camera are you using? Please make sure to download and install the latest drivers for that camera.

Re: Java Security Vulnerability
Hello, The short answer: Yawcam does not use log4j and is not affected by this security vulnerability. So as far as I know, Yawcam should still be safe to use. Some more info: Some of Yawcam's third party libraries use a "wrapper" for logging called: Apache Commons Logging. https://commons...

Re: Yawcam 0.7.0 RELEASED!
Today, I would recommend you to use the OpenJDK 11 (LTS) found here: https://adoptopenjdk.net/ Yawcam still works with java version 6 to 8, but could then get some problems when the computer hibernates or goes to sleep. Using java version 9 or above will handle this better. The latest java version w...

It looks like outlook.com requires STARTTLS as encryption method:

Re: Yawcam motion records hundreds of pitch black videos at night
I'm glad to hear that the darkness filter turned out to work pretty well for you! As you say, it sounds like your setup is close to ideal for this scenario. A follow up question: Does your camera have IR-lights? My guess is that the darkness filter would work better with IR-lights disabled on the ca...

Re: Yawcam motion records hundreds of pitch black videos at night
Nice, I'm looking forward to hear about the results from your tests when they are ready. Regarding the future version, It all comes down to the graphics card if you will be able to run the object detection with decent performance or not. I will have to make more tests on different hardware before I ...

Re: Yawcam motion records hundreds of pitch black videos at night
As a "teaser": A future version of Yawcam will be more focused on motion detection and surveillance. It will use machine learning to detect objects in the video. This eliminates a lot of false positives that you get when you only compare pixel changes. My tests so far looks promising. :D I...

Re: Yawcam motion records hundreds of pitch black videos at night
I guess a "darkness filter" only will be useful in the case where you have lights controlled by a PIR. But in that case it probably can make some difference for the number of false positives. It's never as simple as a single if-statement :D But this change was simple enough. Try this new b...

Re: Yawcam motion records hundreds of pitch black videos at night
It's sometimes tricky to get an acceptable level of false positives, especially during night time.
Are you using the motion detector with "auto level" enabled or disabled?
I would recommend to have it enabled.
I also recommend you to use the "Reference image" algorithm.

Yes
I'm afraid this function got abused by spam bots, so I had to disable it for now.
I will have to make a new release of Yawcam that handles this without using an external web server.
Until then, this function will be broken. Sorry about that.
But thanks for the feedback
