Problem opening??

Post by Wayne »

I am having a problem with the new version - It is taking ages to startup.
I have had it running for over 5mins and I am still not into the main program/
I have monitored the Memory usage via Taskmanager and it is currently on 45,540k and rising about 100k every 20sec or so.

Please help

Which version are you using? v.0.2.6 or a beta version?

Okey,

Do you see a splash screen? Does it start at all?

You can try to run the file <yawcam directory>\jre\bin\jmfinit.exe once before you try to start and see if that helps.

Also, check that you don't have any version of yawcam.exe running in the task manager before you start yawcam.

Wow this is quicker help than you get with corporate release software.
Cheers

I will give it a go. I see the splash screen and then it changes slighlty to display the version number but that is as far as I get,.

I will try your suggestions and report back

Another question:
Have tried any earlier version before this one, or it this the first time you try Yawcam?

Any progress with the jmfinit?

What you can do is to download a different start file that creates a debug file with some information that might help me figure out what's wrong.

Get the file here:
http://www.tmp.yawcam.com/yaw_debug.bat

Save the file to your yawcam directory, and start yawcam with this file.
When Yawcam has stopped look in the yawcam directory for a file called:

debug_log.txt

Could you please email this file to me on malun@yawcam.com?

Do what you suggested didnt have any effect. I still only get the splash screen and it seems to freeze there.

Thanks

I have sorted the problem, I read the debug log after I had mailed it, and realised some files were missing...

Dunno how it happened,

thanks for you help.

Actually there is an error in this beta...
If yawcam can't find your webcam, it will crash. And that's what happend for you.
But you also got your ver.dat file corrupted. Anyhow, get this update:
http://www.tmp.yawcam.com/yawcam_cam_crash_fix.zip

unpack it to your yawcam directory and replace all files.

This should fix the problem if yawcam can't find your webcam again.

Regarding the missing files...
yawcam_settings.xml is intentionally not included. It will be created first time you run Yawcam. (That is, first time you run yawcam and it doesn't crash :? )

But if you replaced this file with an old settings file Yawcam probably found your webcamera from your old settings and yawcam started again.

Anyhow, if you disconnect the camera from the computer and start yawcam (beta 2006-05-15), it will crash instead of give a warning message. This should be fixed if you update with the file above.
