I am lost with all this port stuff!

Post by Bob J »

I have a Linksys router with VPN. It does support UPnp and it is enabled. I can get the http and streaming output working if I use port 8080 and 8081 respectively but that means I have to use the port number in the URL. When I set either to 80, I get a message from YawCam that 80 is in use.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If the default ports are functionning,
Why change them ?
We are talking about logical ports on your computer.
So it's possible an application or service on your computer uses port 80.

I guess I thought that port 80 was the default. I figured that things were just cleaner if I didn't have to include the port number in the URL to get to my page.

I was thinking that this was why I do not get the offline message when the streaming is off. I have the schedule set to provide http all the time and stream only during daylight hours. When the streaming is off, the page can't be found. I thought if the URL didn't have to have the port in it, the http would be seen when the stream was off. No?
