FTP For Dummies? HELP!

Post by DragonzLeyr »

Greetings! I'm attempting to set up an ftp image transfer on my website, but when I activate the ftp function, i'm getting the error message "FTP error: String index out of range: 4"

Can anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I set up a cam directory with a limited user account accessibility for that directory only, and made sure that the image file is the same on my site as the one specified in the camera settings, and pointing to the same directory. When I use WS_FTP, I have no problems uploading to the site using the screen name and password I set up on the directory, and the ftp server name is the same as used in WS_FTP, same port, etc.

Any ideas? The picture on the site never changes from the original one that I uploaded when I set up the directory.

Thanks for the help!

This is a bug in Yawcam version 0.2.4, but it is fixed in the latest beta version. Please download the betaversion instead and see that works:

I downloaded and installed the new beta. After setting up the ftp protocol, the ftp logs in, but an error pops up saying "No such directory". I went into my site, deleted the directory in question, created a new directory with a different name, reconfigured the permissions and settings, and still get the same message from Yawcam when I try to access it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks again!

Added for reference: http://www.dragonzleyr.net/cam this is directory on my server- there is an index.html page as well as a cam.jpg image in the directory which I uploaded with WS_FTP. The Yawcam does not recognize the directory, but it is there.

Do you come directly to the directory where the index file is for http://www.dragonzleyr.net/ when you login to your ftp with ws_ftp?
Can you directly see the directory cam?

You see, In some webservers all the public files is located in a directory called something like public_html. If your webcam directory is located below this one (like root/public_html/cam) then you will have to specify this directory in the Yawcam settings too.

How have you written the directory name in the yawcam settings?

I just tried all the below strings in the ftp settings.. still no luck-

www.dragonzleyr.net/cam
www.dragonzleyr.net/public_html/cam
public_html/cam
/public_html/cam
root/public_html/cam
/root/public_html/cam
/cam
cam

Please see the email I sent you... perhaps with the info enclosed you may be able to assist me in figuring out what's happening?

Oh, I'm terribly sorry, but I havn't been able to download my e-mail the last days because of some trouble with my e-mail client.
Could you please re-send your email to the adress: lundvall [at] gmail . com instead?
Then I will be able to read your mail ;)

Thanks! That was the problem! When I set up the account, it had limited access to ONLY the "cam" directory, so there was no need to specify a directory in the ftp settings.

Everything is working great now!

Thanks again for the help and fast response! I'll be putting a banner on my site for you too!
