Motion detection: Sensitivity & Tolerance query

Post by Basara »

I'm having a bit of trouble setting up the motion detection settings.

My camera points at the sky and records the stars at night, this is done by 30s snapshots combined into a .mov file later on.

Obviously sometimes meteors etc appear in the sky and I wish the motion detection to pick these up.

So far my results have either been the motion detection does not trigger or i end up with 150k images per night as it detects everything.

The auto detect usually puts the settings at:
Sensitivity 75-85% and the Tolerance pretty much stays at 20%.

I;ve played around with these settings manually but i just cant find the right settings.

Has anyone done a similar set-up, looking for motion on a pretty much motionless dark frame, where the thing you want to capture is a bright light source? The main issue is clouds moving across as they are a large change in motion as opposed to a smaller moving streak of light.

hi, from what i have seen, i don't think you can setup MD to be this sensitive. Unless you are zoomed in on a small part of the sky, I don't think the percentage of changed pixels is very high with a shooting star.
