Brightness settings don't work/too dark

I have a MS lifecam studio, the MS software preview works fine, nice and bright.. if I check the settings they are identical to how they appear in yawcam however the output is much different. I can change the brightness setting all I want and it doesn't affect anything in yawcam. If I crank up the brightness in yawcam, it's dark..then I can close it and open the lifecam software and it's super bright.. AKA, same settings, not program specific.
Good software otherwise, but this makes it essentially unusable for me.
