webcam sharing

Post by Shocked »

Does anybody know if there is way to share usb2 webcam in local network. Is there any software solution for that purpose? I have local XP Pro Ws with USB2 web cam and server NT4 sp6 without USB (NT doesn't support USB). Anyhow I wan't keep my workstation almost completely behind of firewall.

Webcam should be shared for web server now and can't find good way for it. Is the only solution to change from NT to XP? Waiting for solution, thank you? :shock:

How are you connected to the Internet?

Like this:
[Internet] -> [hardware router/firewall] ->[Server NT4]
................................................................-> [workstation XP]

(with both server and workstation connected directly to the router)

or like this:
[Internet] ->[Server NT4] -> [workstation XP]

(without any hardware router)

If it's like the first case you will have to redirect one port on your router to point directly on your workstation. This is typically done with a web-interface to your router. (Check your manual)

If it's like the latter case you have to redirect a port on your server to point directly on your workstation. I don't know how this is done in Windows NT. Maybe you will need som additional software to solve this. Does somebody else have any idea?
