YAWCAM - Doesn connect to SMTP host ......

YAWCAM - Doesn connect to SMTP host ......

I have problems to setup/use the eMail function in YAWCAM.
The message i have is "Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host: relay.skynet.be, port: 465".
The name of the SMTP server (host) i try to use is the one in my mail configuration in Windows XP.
(Copied and pasted the name to avoid errors).
(I use Microsoft Outlook as mailprogram)
Same ting with the port used (Port used in OUTLOOK configuration is port: 25.
"Use encrypted connection (SSL)" is not checked, so i did not checked it in the YAWCAM setup either.
I checked my firewall protection and alowed the yawcam.exe to access the internet.

Image

Why does the logfile indicates "port: 465, while i clearly configured port: 25 ?

Anyone has an idea what's wrong ?
Do i need to use another mail service like hotmail ?

HOTMAIL - acounts

Post by tellmewhy »

Since i have a working Hotmail account, i tested with that too.
I searched on onternet and found out that the SMTP servers for hotmail are/can be "mx1.hotmail.com", "mx2.hotmail.com",
"mx3.hotmail.com" and/or "mx4.hotmail.com".
I tested the all, with the following result,

19:29] Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host: mx4.hotmail.com, port: 465
[19:36] Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host: mx3.hotmail.com, port: 465
[19:41] Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host: mx2.hotmail.com, port: 465
[19:50] Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host: mx1.hotmail.com, port: 465

Any ideas ?

Yawcam - SMTP error / port: 465 - Finaly got it to work

Post by tellmewhy »

I finaly got it to work
I'd like everybody to benefit from my search, so read Yawcam - Configure yawcam for use with Outlook on my forum.
Believe it or not,
But in the Yawcam setup window in the "To" field, the "From" field and the "Username" field, the ISP provider has to be in uppercases.
All the previous times i haven't paid attention to that fact.

So the mailfunction works when you take over the mail settings from window.
Including the port settings (in my case "port: 25"), i don't know why the Yawcam console kept saying "port: 465".

Yawcam has detected motion in front of your camera!

Changing to caps does not work for me. Have also added Yawcam to windows firewall exceptions. Still getting "Mail: Could not connect to SMTP host" errors every time Yawcam attempts to email on motion detection. Is getting Port 25 correct

Any other suggestions?

Did look at your site. I have nothing set up for Windows Messaging. Does Yawcam need that?

thanks

The explanation i made i for,
  • Using Microsoft Outlook as eMail client.
  • SKYNET.BE as my ISP
And relay.skynet.be as SMTP server (Outgoing mail server).
  • Windwos XP as OS
Of couse if you use other mail clients,
Portsettings, SMTP server name, ..... can be different.
Here you have two site with mail services listed.
Each time with the proper name of their SMTP server. I hope yours is listed to so you can enter the proper values.
If this doesn't help, can you add a screenshot like i did or note the values you have entered,
This way we can help you more.

Am using Thunderbird. Used the settings from Thunderbird for Yawcam (except now in caps) --
outgoing.verizon.net
port 25
checked password required
did not check SSL

Also tried smtpout.verizon.net, an alternative listed in one of the sites you provided. no difference

I found a document of how to configure your mail in Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5 (NL).
I found another document of How to change / check the SMTP port configured in Thunderbird.
I found an article SMTP instellingen voor Thunderbird.
Articles are in dutch, sorry for that.

Another article i found Thunderbird: SMTP Configuration.
SMTP servers - Thunderbird.

maybe reading those articles can help you to found out how your eMail is configured and then you can fill in the config in Yawcam
All articles found with Google.
Hope this helps you.

EDETED :
This maybe you know,
But take care you fill in a "From mailadress as well as a "To" mailadress.

Thanks for the sites.

Problem though is not Thunderbird. It works fine. I put into Yawcam the same settings that work in Thunderbird and get nowhere.

I could guess some sort of firewall issue is not allowing Yawcam to communicate out.

Any other ideas?

Youve got the same problem...
I presume the only thing you can't do then is using the eMail option on motion detection ?
I presume all the rest does function fine ?
  • What eMail client do you use ?
  • What are the setings you used in Yawcam ?
  • Do you get an error of some kind ?
What does the log says ?
    Yawcam -> Console
    Image
The console can be accessed in two ways. Either by the console tab in the main window, or by the console window from the text menu in the main window. ("Window -> Console")

Yawcam prints status and info messages in the console during runtime. All output in the console starts with a time stamp and the newest entry is printed at the bottom.
Info found in the Yawcam - Online help

Yes sure, I forgot to properly check my Outlook settings. Pushing 'receive/transmit' button in Outlook should resolve in checking 2 email-accounts , somehow it only checked 1 account and it took me ages to find out  . I dont believe this has anything to do with Yawcam.
