Difficult do develop a linux version

Post by Martin »

Hi folks

What do you think would it be difficult to migrate Yawcam to Linux also? This would
be very helpful to me due to the fact I'm not running generally unter WinX (except
for gaming sometimes).

Cheers,
Martin

Right now it doesn't look like I'm going to have the time to make a linux version of Yawcam.
Even though java is platform independent I have used some windows specific code in Yawcam. This will make the work with a linux version much harder than it first seems to be.

Sorry.

No need - equivalent app exists on linux

There is an equivalent linux program that does all that yawcam does and also has some modules that make it useful for professional streaming... it's called camsource, and it's quite simple, though it has a LOT of options and so may be confusing at times. No GUI though, it is configured with a config file. It has ftp uploading, streaming in multiple sizes, file saving, http server, and it works with several viewer applets. I use it for the same purposes as most people here use yawcam. It should be easy to hack together a preview window and config interface that looks similar to yawcam. I might even have time to do it (also a java person) eventually, later this year. But using the config file is very well documented and the browser can be used as a preview window...
