While Internet disconnected -Timeout limit is to sensitive..

Post by Alex_CH »

Hmm, I've got sometimes this situation:
start Yawcam,
let the PC do it's work....
now! the internet is diconnected (while not at home-"at work"
Yawcam answers this disconnect with an error like:

Unknown host!
Please check the address for the ftp in the settings.

Could U supress this message and retry to connect every *** secs?

If a machine is not monitored and operated (maybe users is not present) the webcam is interrupted for many hours.....
thx Alex

Yes, I'm aware of this problem. Really annoying...
I think there is a post about it somewhere here in the forum... But now I can't find it...
Anyway, I'll try to fix this before the next version of Yawcam.

I also want to recommend you to install a small patch that makes the ftp upload a bit more stable.
Look at http://www.yawcam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=85 for more info.
Download the patch here: http://www.yawcam.com/yawcam_ftp_patch.zip
and install it just like an ordinary update.

Upload Problems

It would probably be usefull for those on dial-up connections if YAWCAM watched for an active dial-up connection, and did not keep retrying while the system is not connected to the internet.

Have a look at Tardis2000 at http://www.kaska.demon.co.uk/ for an example of an application that does this.

I'm not sure it's possible to watch for an active dial-up connection in java. Java is operating system independet and because of this it's somtimes impossible to get hold of any Windows specific information. Maybe there exists some JNI library that are possible to use. I'll look in to that...
