Enhancement Request

Post by skylab »

Great App. It's got some bugs, but overall a nice well rounded app.

I was wondering if you could add an enhancement request to the list. I'd like to see the option of choosing the area of the webcam image to be selected for file save/upload. That way one could zoom into a certain area and scroll over to select a certain area of the image. Images would be generated based on the area instead of the whole webcam image.

Thank you again.

It's a nice idea, but it will not be added in the nearest future. Feels like this feature won't be used by so many users. So it will not get so high on the priority list.

Well, for people using webcams to show outdoor areas this might be a question of being legal or not...!

At least in Norway (I would guess in other coutries as well) you may put up a webcam for outdoor use (camera may of coarse be on the inside of a window) if the photo/video only shown your own property. If the photo show the house and/or property/garden of other people, or a public road etc it is not legal to put up such a webcam without applying for it to the appropriate authorities and get the request granted.

If you are able to mask out anything else than your own property it will be legal.

You can do this using other programs like Manycam or Splitcam, they both offer a zoom option and arec ompatible with Yawcam. Simply install the software, have manycam or splitcam zoom in on the area you want using your webcam. Then point yawcam's device to the Manycam Virtual Webcam and you'll have your zoomed feed into yawcam. It's free but it's yet another app to run on your computer...
