Launching YAWCAM with no camera connected

Post by swgertsch »

YAWCAM 0.6.0 doesn't appear to always gracefully handle starting up when there is no camera connected to the computer. You see the YAWCAM launch banner for second the nothing.

At a minimum I should expect to see an error/warning msg dialogue to the effect that YAWCAM could not detect any camera(s).

Yes. And it is very annoying and unpractical.

If you have a system where Yawcam is often restarted or the computer is restarted due to power outage and if it happens that Yawcam restarts in the moment that camera is offline (power outage at the camera or deliberate power cut at the camera to reset the camera if it often hangs or WiFi or LAN not working at the moment of Yawcam starting,...) then this error pop-up appears and the programs stops completely until you service this pop-up manually. And it does not help at all if in the mean time the camera comes on-line again. The program does not detect it automatically as was the good practice in the previous versions of the otherwise super program Yawcam. And it also does not help if you tick all the options (where available) "Silent retry on error" in the setting.

So please, can you put a tick option in the settings, something like "Ignore error if camera is off-line" or "Wait if camera is off-line without the error pop-up". This way the system can be completely autonomous as it was until now.

Keep up the excellent job! :D
