Webcam shuts off after a couple of hours

My USB webcam (Dynex DX-DTCAM) shuts off after a couple of hours (with HTTP and STREAM enabled in Yawcam).

Is my USB port disconnecting after a period of time or is the timing-out inherent in this webcam model?

No helpful info was found on the Dynex website or in the product manual.

My machine is Windows XP Pro SP3.

A sleepy webcam kind of makes monitoring difficult.

Wouldn't those settings be in your Power Options in the Control Panel?

I have mine set to Never on all instances & nothing goes off.

What do you mean with shutting off? Does the preview window say "No device selected" ? Are you using the latest drivers for the webcam?

I had the same problem.
Follow these instructions to keep the USB ports on...

1. Open "Start Menu", select "Settings", then menu item "Control Panel."

2. In "Control Panel" window click open the "System" icon.

3. When the "System Properties" box opens, select the "Hardware" tab, then click the "Device Manager" button.

4. When "Device Manager" opens, click the at "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" to expand it.

5. Right-click the first "USB Root Hub" item and select "Properties" from the menu.

6. Select the "Power Management" tab. Clear the checkmark from Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Click "OK."

7. Repeat these steps for all the "USB Root Hubs."

When the default "Power Saving" mode was checked, the image would be black (no image) in the webpage. As soon as I move the mouse the image would return. In the screen all the text was still present with no warnings.

As for the preview window...
I never leave that open so I have no clue.

I tested Yawcam with the default Powersave Mode and found that it does indeed show "No device selected" when the USB port powers off. Hopefully there is a way for your next version to uncheck the powersave mode automaticaly? This would prevent non-computer savy people from making errors trying to fix it themselves.

I'm sorry but I haven't found any way to modify the power settings for the usb units. I think this would be regarded as a security issue if softwares were allowed to modify these settings...

I believe the all users with this problem will have to modify the usb power settings themselves.
