I'm trying to save about 1000 pictures that gets overwritten sequentially, i.e. pic1001 becomes pic1 and so on. This way I can always see the last 1000 images without having to keep on deleting old ones.
I'm doing this under
Yawcam -> Motion detection -> Actions -> File -> Save File and I'm using pic{999}.jpg as the filename. However it just keeps on saving only 1 image called 'pic{999}.jpg'. I guess the {X} and {num} variables don't work in this case?
I want to save the pictures in either Dropbox or Sugarsync without going over the 2GB limit. I think this is pretty useful in case anything happens to the computer that is recording the images (e.g. theft, flood, etc...)
File output under motion detection using {X} does not work?
Nope, I have it set up to take 5 images each time motion is detected. Over time, the number of images would accumulate from pic1 to pic1000.
What I am trying to do is limit the TOTAL number of images in the folder to 1000. So once I reach 1000 images, the 1001th image overwrites pic1 and the cycle repeats.

Hm, it's not really for me to say but that doesn't sound like yawcam's "problem" to
solve. Also, replacing image #1 with image #1001 doesn't sound like a good idea.
How would you know which image is the latest when it's, let's say, at #453 (#1453)?
After the #1000 image you will always have 1000 images.
But you can do it in another way. You can save each day's images in it's own folder
(read here http://www.yawcam.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=6873#6873 how) &
after every day/week/month or whatever you can delete previous folders. That way
you keep them organized & it's easier to view & delete them.

I see that the feature you are requesting has already been approved by Malun,
