On Stop Yawcam - Post offline-Frame?

Post by Guest »

Hi,

is there a posibility if Yawcam stops (maybe by shutdown the workstation) that Yawcam posts a user-editable (jpg) to show websitevisitors that the cam is offline like this (works only until 10.00 PM and 16.00 PM!

thx, Alex

This sounds like a good idea. It will only work the file output and ftp output though.

But I'll see if I can add this feature in the next version.

Nope, it's hard to know ;-)
But I'm working on it...
I don't want to say any date because then people only will get disappointed when I can't make it in time...

Haha.. yes "Sherlock", as you have noticed I have forgotten to remove the OfflineImage.jpg from this installation package of Yawcam 0.2.4.
And you are right, there exists an "upload-offline-image-functionality" but I choosed not to include it in this release because it's not quite finished.

The language is in static english only and the functionality has not been tested by others than me.

But perhaps I can release a new beta with this function (and maybe some others) some day the next week...

I know you want this function Alex ;)

Whatta you think about having the applet able to switch to a predefined image on the streaming version too? It could be an applet param, something like:

<param name="NoConnectionImage" value="disco.jpg">

I'm hosting it up on a webserver, so the applet is available when yawcam is off. I'd sure use it, but I like it anyway so thanks!

Yes, that could be included, but it will probably not be so useful for the most users... since the applet will not work if it isn't downloaded from the same address it tries to connect to.

Most users will use a webspace with a different address than the address to the webcam computer.

So, I guess you run your own webserver, right?

how to use it?

Hi Malun,

thx for including this feature in your beta version....

....but how to use it?

When post yawcam this "offline-pic"? if I close yawcam?

Hi Alex,

Yawcam will post the the offline-image when you disable the file or ftp function. (If you have the offline-option enabled in the settings.)

Right now it will not post the offline image when you close Yawcam. I'm not sure if this is the best solution... but posting an offline image will delay the closing process. A delay in the closing is not desirable.
What do you think about it?

maybe U can add a tick-box in tab "Offline-Image" like "save image on closing yawcam".

so users have the choice....

Offline Image

Sorry I took so long checking back. Yep, I do run my own webserver. Since the applet is available all the time in my case obviously I'd like the applet to simply display that image.
