Oddly timed picture taking

I have finally been working with this all day to see a pattern, at least when it does decide to take some pictures. I have it set to be motion activated and take pictures every five seconds. However, what happens is that I get two pictures that are back to back(five seconds apart) and then I go either 30 or 60 seconds before I get another set of two back to back pictures.

The computer is using windows 7 64-bit with a dual core running at 2.0. With two gigs of memory.

I personally think this computer just can't handle it. It has a microsoft lifecam vx-5000 and even when it is not doing anything, the lifecam software complains about not having enough resouces.

This is a pretty common misunderstanding and current limitation.
