I manage very well to get the off line image displayed for FTP but not for streaming ...
If streaming is off, I get a little red cross instead of the view .... like now I will be off the air till tomorrow night and I cannot tell viewers that I am off line .... it would be nice ? maybe it can't be done

The offline image function in yawcam will only work for the ftp and the file output. Not for the stream.
On the other hand, if you are running an own webserver with the same ip address as the address that the applet connects to you can supply the applet with an offline image. Look at the post on top of this page:

(You don't need the "new applet" mentioned in ths post. The applet delivered with yawcam 0.2.5 is newer.)
Note that you then can't use the CODEBASE instruction, but will have to upload the applet to the weberver.
I must also stress that this will only work for a few people!
Since the applet will not work if it isn't downloaded from the same address it tries to connect to.
Most users will use a webspace with a different address than the address to the webcam computer.
