could not start the application

Post by hermit »

I downloaded the latest version (.0.3.1) and it installed successfully on my win7x64.

When i tried to start (run as admin and not), got error "could not start the application, please reinstall."

I tried to uninstall and reboot and reinstall and still same error.

yawcam 0.3.0 worked fine

anyone encountering the same problem?

I have got one report from another user with the same problem. (Also running win7x64)

Which java version are you running? The 32bit or the 64 bit?
Please open a command prompt:
click the windows start button
type "cmd" in the search field
click on cmd.exe in the result list

Now type "java -version" and press enter. What does the output say?

Also type "echo %path%" and press enter. Does the output say anything about java?

Could you also check the file size of your Yawcam.exe file?
It is typically located here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Yawcam\Yawcam.exe
Right click on the file and choose "properties"
What does the size say?

I also have this problem, win7 x64.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin>java -version
java version "1.6.0_17"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_17-b04)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 14.3-b01, mixed mode, sharing)

no java in path
yawcam.exe is 88 064

thanks

Hm, added c:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin to the %path, seems to work ok now.

sam error, same solution

Post by csmba »

just confirming:
after installation got the same error. running as admin did not help.

the java command was not on the path.
so I added the jr6 to the path and it works now.

Notice: if after adding the path you now get a different error, saying running failed "requires elevation", it is because you need to "run as administrator"

Added path and got further. But Yawcam disappeared after loading devices. Installed as admin and ran as admin.

I am using windows 7x64 on macbook bootcamp.

i have java b17; do I need any other java aside from the one installed via the web browser?

Maybe I'm not understanding

I don't think I understand what you guys are talking about adding to the %path. Could someone please explain in step by step detail what you guys are doing? I really need to get this working so I can run surveillance on my house. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks

click start button
type path
click edit the system environment variables
clcik Environment Variables
in the window, scroll down the system variables box and locate Path
click Edit
put ;C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\ at the end of the value for Path. Careful not to erase existing stuff
reboot pc

I have now located the problem.
I'll try to make a fix as soon as possible!

Looks like the problem occurs when you are using win7 x64 with a 32 bit JRE.
While I'm making a proper installation package, Please download this file:
http://www.yawcam.com/files/Yawcam_x86.exe
and save in your yawcam program directory.
Now try to start Yawcam with this new file.

Okay, the fix is out.
Just download Yawcam 0.3.2 from the ordinary download page.

Please let me know how this version is working for you!

Thanks for the detailed 'path' information. I too have not been able to start yawcam in the last couple of days. Re-installed yawcam, checked for updates, uninstalled, re-booted, re-installed, all to no avail. Then found this forum thread and realised that I'd updated Java a few days ago to Java 7.25. I followed the 'path' instructions above, but substituting jre7 for jre6, and SUCCESS. I'm now back in business. Yawcam is a superb program. Thanks. :D (Yawcam 0.4.1 by the way)

Re: could not start the application

A few days ago I updated to v.0.4.1 to overcome a recent Java update issue and then Yawcam was running good until yesterday. I had to shut the computer down yesterday and also did the recommended Windows 8 updates but then Yawcam would not restart - got the 'Could not start the application' message. I read the last post in this thread but unfortunately I don't understand how I would do that Path addition in Windows 8. Any suggestion?

Thanks,
Paul

Your best bet would be to re-install java. That is the cause of the error message.

Thank you z3r0c00l12 for the advice. I did download Java, removed any old versions, and that quick all is well again. I know nothing about Java and was afraid to monkey with it but got the nerve and it was actually very simple. Another lesson learned,
