Enhancement Request - Motion Detect Define area

Postby distudio » Tue Feb 15, 2011 8:13 am

Hi,

I'm just getting into Yawcam, great little piece of software thus far, thanks for your efforts.

I have found a couple of issues, this one is a potential UI enhancement.

It's impossible to use the UI to define the area for Motion detection when the screen that Yawcam is running has a lower resolution than the video feed as the OK and Cancel controls are off screen.

It would be great if the live image used to Define the motion detect area could be scaled to 75% and 50%.

Workarounds currently are to set the screen to a higher resolution than the monitor and access via VNC etc or I expect to manually define the area in the yawcam_settings.xml via a text editor. Is there a source of information that provides detailed explanations for each entry within the yawcam_settings.xml file?

Cheers,

Rob

Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't aware of the problem to define an area if the screen is smaller than the video size.
However I'm afraid this will not get a fix anytime soon since most users won't run into this problem. Fixing this will cost a bit to much time in relation to what it will give... But I will keep this in mind when I rewrite the define area dialog to add more options. I can't say when this will be done right now though.

No Problems, glad to be of assistance ;-)

I can see it potentially becoming more of a problem. If like me people are employing older systems either headless or with small monitors to act as video servers then as webcam/IP can resolution increases this scenario will become more likely.

Rob

Okay, the problem is kind of fixed with the help of scrollbars in Yawcam 0.3.6.
Download and give it a try ;)

Thanks!

I still have a problem with the IP cam stream getting way out of sync with reality. My interim solution is to force a restart of Yawcam (running as a service under SBS 2003 SR2) three times a day.

Cheers,

Rob
