Motion detection recording.

Is it possible to have the amount of pixels changed dynamically printed to the name of the picture just like date and time. If not I know it records the amount of motion % changed because it shows up in the Motion Events list. I am doing a motion detection project for my engineering class and I need to be able to tell how much motion occurs. Is there any way that I can gain access to the motion events list or a similar file and read in the amount of pixels changed?
