Could not connect to the device

Post by Old_Mortality »

Hi,

I am trying to use this software for the first time. Unfortunately, I am getting the error "could not connect to the device"

I can use this same webcam in Skype, so it works, but I do not have Skype running when I get the error. This happens for both my integrated webcam, and for an external one.

What do I do now?

Thank you for your attention. Any help appreciated.

Michel,
What camera (make and model) are you trying to use. I found that different cameras sometimes need different URL settings to work.
For instance, my Foscam needs:
http://192.168.x.xx/videostream.cgi
Whereas my Ediemax needs:
http://192.168.x.xx/mjpg/video.mjpg

Obviously I have replaced part of the url with xx and you need the proper numbers. I also have found one camera that needs the login "username password" in the url line to work.

Oh and its not always the same url that you type into your browser to view the camera that way!

I know this is a very old post, but something said here interests me:

"I also have found one camera that needs the login "username password" in the url line to work."

Does anyone know whereabouts in the URL this needs to be? As it could be the cause of my recent problem...

I have a camera that required this (no longer in use), and it is after the url such as:

http://192.168.1.1:8088 Username password

I don't remember any other characters other than spaces between the sections.
